| | | The Eternals: What You Need to Know About Kit Harington's Black Knight Role | | by Stacey Nguyen Jun 2, 2021 |
The Eternals' gorgeous cast is stacked, and for a split second in the latest trailer, we get a sneak peek of Kit Harington's character. That's right - Game of Thrones's Jon Snow is in the upcoming Chloé Zhao-directed Marvel project, and he'll be portraying the mysterious Black Knight. If you're wondering who this character is in the comics, we've got you covered with all the details that you need to know about him. Let's get one thing out of the way: The Black Knight isn't an Eternal - he's essentially a human superhero with a fancy sword. In the comics, the original Black Knight is Sir Percy of Scandia, a master of swordsmanship in the time of Camelot. Harington's iteration of the Black Knight is Percy's descendant, Dane Whitman, and he's the nephew of the villainous Nathan Garrett, who was fatally injured in a battle with Iron Man. Dane assumes his uncle's Black Knight legacy, wielding the mystical Ebony Blade after the spirit of Sir Percy contacts him. He later works with the Avengers, who find him useful for his deep scientific knowledge but don't fully trust him because of their past with his uncle Nathan. You could say that the Ebony Blade is, metaphorically speaking, something of a double-edged sword. While it has powerful mystic properties, it's also cursed in a way that makes its wielder more violent and bloodthirsty. So, how does the Black Knight connect to the Eternals? At one point in time, Dane was in a love triangle with the Inhuman Crystal and the Eternal Sersi. We briefly see Gemma Chan's Sersi with Harington's Black Knight, but the teaser focuses more on the relationship between Sersi and Richard Madden's Ikaris. Could we see a love triangle between the Black Knight, Sersi, and Ikaris? It's possible. It's also possible that we'll see the Black Knight's backstory get altered in the MCU so that he'll have somewhat a stronger connection with the mysterious Eternals. Given his extensive history in the comics, we wouldn't be surprised to see Harington in other Phase Four films to come! | | | | | The Eternals: Here's Everything You Need to Know About Ikaris | | by Stacey Nguyen Jun 2, 2021 |
The latest trailer for The Eternals finally gives us a much-anticipated sneak peek at Richard Madden's dreamy Ikaris. While there's only so much we can glean from a two-minute preview, we do learn that the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Ikaris has loved Sersi (Gemma Chan) throughout time and that he thinks that he can lead the Avengers. So what else do we know about Ikaris? Keep reading for more background on his godly powers and origins in the Marvel comics. So far, the movie version of Ikaris has been billed as the tactical leader of the Eternals as well as their strongest asset when they fight against their enemies, the Deviants. According to ComicBook.com, he harnesses "incredible strength, flight, and the ability to project beams of intense cosmic energy from his eyes." The comic iteration of Ikaris boasts similar gifts as well. Like his fellow Eternals, who are essentially superhuman alien immortals created by the Celestials, Ikaris can wield cosmic energy and control his molecular structure, making him immune to disease, aging, and extreme temperatures. He's also said to be the fastest flier of all the Eternals and can manifest the Blue Flame, an energy that allows him to reshape the physical forms of Eternals, humans, and Deviants into a physical entity called a Uni-Mind. Ikaris previously lived in a city called Polaria, where the Polar Eternals resided. A third-generation Eternal, he was born roughly 20,000 years ago. He's known for guiding a group of refugees on an ark to find safety (yes, like in the story of Noah's Ark) and for fighting the Deviants for centuries. He's even had a son with a human woman, although his son didn't inherit his powers. His son, also named Ikaris, created a flying device to find the elder Ikaris, but he flew too close to the sun, which burned his contraption and catapulted him into the ocean. If that sounds familiar, it should remind you of the Greek myth of Icarus, the man who flew too close to the sun. Suffice to say, there's a whole lot of backstory that the MCU can dig into for Madden's Ikaris - it'll be exciting to see how his character unfolds on the big screen! | | | | | Simon Cowell Got "Goosebumps" After a 10-Year-Old Belted Celine Dion For His AGT Audition | | by Karenna Meredith Jun 2, 2021 |
