Fandango is the host of Fandango Provocative Question

FPQ

Welcome once again to Fandango's Provocative Question. Each week I will pose what I think is a provocative question for your consideration.

It seems to me that there are a lot of things to worry about these days. Whether we're talking about the climate, politics, the seemingly never ending pandemic, natural disasters, social injustice, mass shootings, cultural clashes, or wars, the news is rarely good. I have almost gotten to the point that I'm considering stopping reading or watching the news because I find it both disheartening and depressing.

So with this in mind, my provocative question this week is this…

What worries you the most about the future? Why is that your biggest concern? Or are you not that concerned about the future?

Since I was a child, I was a worrier. I used to worry about everything. Things that I had some control over and things which were not in my control.

It took me many years of conscious effort to get rid of this habit. I was taught to do my best in any situation and leave the result to fate/God. I am a believer in both. I believe that God has the supreme authority over everything and that what is fated will happen.

At the stage I am in life, I look forward to few years left to me, to grow old in peace. But I know the world around me is not at peace. People are exploiting the planet for resources, damaging its environment, wasting water, and generally creating a hostile atmosphere for human survival. Politically, things aren't much better.

In this scenario, I do what I can. I try to raise awareness by writing about these issues, I conserve water and electricity. And we are planning to go solar for our household. In the political arena, I cannot do much except vote for the sanest party when election time comes around.

After that, I don't worry. Because worrying will only spoil whatever time I've left here. It never helps to worry about things.
