Jacob Zuma Released From Prison After Being Freed On Medical Parole

Former South Africa President Jacob Zuma has been released from prison after being freed on medical parole.

The former president was sentenced to 15 months in prison by the Constitutional Court of South Africa. Zuma was found guilty of contempt of court when he defied a court order issued by the Constitutional Court for him to appear before the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture.

The 79-year-old's incarceration resulted in massive protests which degenerated into violence and looting. The looting mainly occured in the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng where Zuma commands a lot of support.

South Africa's Department of Correctional Services announced that it has granted former president Jacob Zuma medical parole on Sunday.
