| Sonic Prime: Netflix Shows a Glimpse of the New Animated Series | by Ryan Leston May 3, 2022 | Netflix has unveiled a brief first look at Sonic Prime – the new Sonic the Hedgehog animated series. A brief new animated teaser and several images have been unveiled by Netflix, giving us a glimpse at the new Sonic the Hedgehog show, as well as several other upcoming animated projects, including a new Kung Fu Panda series. Sonic Prime follows the legendary blue hedgehog on a “high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands.” That may sound like an altogether familiar premise, but it’s said that Sonic Prime is more than just “a race to save the universe,” with Netflix explaining that Sonic will find himself on “a journey of self-discovery and redemption.” At the moment, details about Sonic Prime are scarce, but the show will feature 24 full episodes. Although the images don’t show us much, it looks as though Sonic is up to his usual antics, chasing gold rings and, well… running really fast. Netflix also unveiled its first look at Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight and also announced new episodes of The Cuphead Show, Sharkdog, and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. “We want to create a safe and trusted space where your children can relax, play, learn, and explore alongside their favorite characters,” said Netflix Animates Series vice president, John Derderian. “As a father to a four-year-old son and two-year-old daughter, I love seeing the world through my children’s eyes and sharing new experiences together. Sometimes that means having a dance party or solving a puzzle. Sometimes it means curling up together to watch their favorite new show.” Although this new announcement from Netflix Kids & Family looks fairly promising, it comes just weeks after the online streamer slashed its animation projects following massive subscriber drops. The cancellation of several long-awaited projects including Bone and Roald Dahl’s The Twits has led to concern about Netflix’s animated future. Whether or not these new kids' shows will avoid cancellation remains to be seen. Ryan Leston is an entertainment journalist and film critic for IGN. Revealed on Microsoft's website, this is one of the more standard designs Xbox has released recently. The controller has a plain pink coating across the entire front of the controller, with matching pink buttons and a white back, but comes in at the more expensive $64.99 price point. You can buy it from the Microsoft Store now. The existing line of one-colour controllers, including White, Black, Red, Blue, and Volt (which is either yellow or green depending on who you ask), usually retail for $59.99. The Deep Pink iteration includes all the standard Xbox Series controller features players should expect - including textured triggers and bumpers, the hybrid, circular d-pad, and more - and is compatible as usual with any Xbox Series or One plus PC and mobile. Microsoft has released several different versions of its new Xbox wireless controller since the Series consoles launched in November 2020, including limited editions such as the 20th Anniversary version and the shiny blue Aqua Shift. Even more limited, though, were the furry Sonic the Hedgehog controllers that Microsoft awarded to just one competition winner. Whether these controllers can compete with the Fisher Price toy is another question though, as a modder turned one into a working PC controller and played Elden Ring with it. VESA's Adaptive-Sync Display Compliance Test Specification (also known as Adaptive-Sync Display CTS) is a new certification program that puts VRR displays through a series of tests to examine the raw performance of a monitor's VRR technology, looking for things such as judder, dropped frames, and flicker. As a refresher, Variable Refresh Rate is a technology that syncs the display's refresh rate to the game's output, allowing games to run at a lower or higher FPS than the display and alleviating issues such as screen tearing. This would not be the first time VESA stepped in to make a certification program. Back in 2017, VESA announced an HDR certification program that focused on things like peak brightness on HDR-capable displays. VESA is transparent about the testing it will put monitors through, going as far as making criteria and the official document of the test specifications public. In addition to a new AdaptiveSync program, VESA also announced a new MediaSync program; the big difference between them is that AdaptiveSync focuses more on displays optimized for gaming, while MediaSync focuses on monitors designed for content creation or video playback. Similar to monitors that go through testing for things like G-Sync and FreeSync, if a monitor passes either the MediaSync or AdaptiveSync tests, VESA will award the monitor with a sticker, as seen in the image below. The list of AdaptiveSync certified products is currently small, with only nine displays, such as the LG UltraGear GP950 27-inch 4K gaming monitor. It’s more than likely that monitors from other display manufacturers will be on the list down the road. Taylor is the Associate Tech Editor at IGN. Kicking off the May the 4th Star Wars Day celebrations, Fortnite will be adding usable lightsabers into the game, with previously available Star Wars items unvaulted from May 3 until May 17, 2022. Additionally, you can buy any non-Battle Pass Star Wars outfit as they return to the shop. Also returning to the island is the iconic E-11 blaster used by Stormtroopers throughout the original Star Wars trilogy. To get your hands on the blaster, look out for Stormtroopers who have set up checkpoints across the island in search of Obi-Wan. They’re also appearing randomly in chests, too. There’s also some new Stormtrooper training in the form of some new Star Wars Quests. Active until May 17 at 12am ET, you’ll confiscate a “landspeeder”, try out some Jedi contraband (a lightsaber), and more. Each quest awards a bunch of XP and completing 5 of these will give you the new Empire Banner. This year’s lightsabers include: - Luke Skywalker (Green)
- Kylo Ren (Red)
- Mace Windu (Purple)
- Obi-Wan (Blue)
If you’re a Star Wars fan who missed all the cool outfits in previous years – don’t fret. All non-Battle Pass Star Wars outfits are heading back to the shop. That includes: - Imperial Stormtrooper
- Kylo Ren
- Zorii Bliss
- Finn
- Rey
- Sith Trooper
- Boba Fett
- Fennec Shand
- Krrsantan
That’s right – there’s a selection of cool Star Wars outfits from throughout Star Wars history – including the recent sequel trilogy and even The Book of Boba Fett. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get your hands on The Mandalorian’s sweet beskar armor… however, if you managed to get hold of it during the Chapter 2: Season 5 Battle Pass, now would be a great time to show it off.
