It looks as though Jackass is returning to TV with an all-new series on Paramount+. According to Variety, the ever-popular comedy show will return following the huge success of the recent movie, Jackass Forever.
“Based off the success of Jackass Forever, we’re working with the creators to continue the partnership with a new series, bringing even more ridiculous antics straight to Paramount+,” said Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish.
Jackass originally aired on MTV in 2000 and followed a cast of performers such as Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O embarking on dangerous, crude, and downright hilarious stunts and pranks.
Following the show’s original run, Jackass evolved into a media franchise of its own, spawning numerous spin-offs as well as four feature films. Now, the original show is set to return.
Although little else has been announced, it’s safe to assume that Jeff Tremaine and Spike Jonze will be back on board, with Knoxville, Steve-O, Wee Man, and many of the original gang returning, too.
As for what stunts they’ll start with, that’s anyone’s guess. But Jackass Forever’s Cup Test is going to take some beating.
IGN’s review of Jackass Forever said: “The final chapter in American comedy’s most chaotic saga, Jackass Forever is a hilarious last hurrah for its original crew. An extravagant stunt show filled with more cinematic homages (and more bodily fluids) than ever before, it takes an ill-advised trip down memory lane and raises the stakes in maniacal fashion. Few recent films have been funnier or more delightfully nostalgic.”
An extended version of Jackass Forever, known as Jackass 4.5, will head to Netflix on May 20 with extra footage shot during the making of the original film.
Steve-O is also set to direct the upcoming Goat Simulator: The Musical.
Jackass Forever stars Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Dave England, Wee Man, Danger Ehren, Preston Lacy, Zach Holmes, and Jasper Dolphin alongside guests, Erik André Machine Gun Kelly, and others.
Jeff Tremaine directed the film, based on a script by Spike Jonze and Knoxville.
