IN LOCAL NEWS: • While Metro's supportive housing tax failed to meet some of its program goals in its first year, it seems to have vastly overshot its mission to prevent people from slipping into homelessness, keeping 9,200 people from being evicted. Passed by voters in Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington counties in 2020, funding from the tax first reached counties in July 2021. Mercury News Editor Alex Zielinski has the breakdown. • The Pacific Northwest’s western redcedars are dying. Two separate studies agree on what's killing them. • Thanks to National Cinema Day, movie tickets only cost $3 this Saturday, AND it's not only a chain thing, which is what you'd generally expect from a national promotion. Both vaccines combine the respective companies' original vaccine with one that targets the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron.
