It appears the Workaholics movie has been axed, as star Adam DeVine revealed Paramount+ isn't moving forward with the project.
On Instagram (via Variety), the actor wrote, "Welp, Paramount + decided to cancel the Workaholics movie. Obviously, this news is the loosest butthole. We were supposed to begin filming in 5 weeks!" DeVine added that Paramount+ apparently told them Workaholics didn't fit their "new 'global' strategy."
"I’m butt hurt that I don’t get to work with my best friends again. I’m butt hurt for the fans, and I’m butt hurt for our loyal crew, and other cast members who are now going to have to scramble to find new jobs," DeVine wrote.
DeVine said they have reached out to other streaming services, and are hoping to find another home to make the Workaholics movie.
Workaholics was a Comedy Central sitcom that aired 86 episodes over 7 seasons from 2011 to 2017. It was created by DeVine, Blake Anderson, and Anders Holm, who were also the three stars of the show. It centers on three friends who live together and work at a telemarketing company.
News of a Workaholics movie first came in 2021, when Vulture reported that the plot would focus on "what it’s like to work through the pandemic”. The movie was reportedly going to set the stage for a sequel series to the original show.
